Sk8scotland 2010
Sk8scotland regrets to announce that due to a number of difficulties it has not been possible to schedule the Scottish Festival of Skating at Dumfries Ice Bowl in October this year. Due to uncertainty with regard to the timing of the re-opening of the Ice Bowl after renovations and the building of a second ice pad (for Curling) at the facility, it was decided that plans for the 2010 Scottish should be put on hold. In addition, the UK skating calendar has become very congested at this time of year, and the pressures of the ISU Junior Grand Prix and the Deeside IJS event immediately prior to and following the usual slot for the Scottish has made it extremely difficult.
The new Sk8scotland Board elected on September 19th 2010 is urgently looking at an alternative strategy for the Scottish Championships in 2011, and will advise on this website as soon as possible. It is likely that instead of a single Festival incorporating all Disciplines, a number of individual events will be organised. This will have the advantage of providing events at more appropriate times during the year for each Discipline, and with most events planned to be held at weekends only, this should enable greater numbers to participate without causing disruption to school, exams or work.
