Aberdeen Solo Dance Opens Results

Despite the confusion brought about by having the event shown as provisional right up to the closing date, a good entry was recorded at the Aberdeen Solo Dance Opens, the first competition of the 2012 series.

Efficiently hosted by the local Linx Club at their attractive seaside venue, skaters and coaches appreciated the warm welcome and sharp timetable throughout the day.

Quite a number of skaters new to ice dance took part in the three non series events, including plenty of eager visitors from England joining a strong contingent of local competitors and those from other parts of Scotland. Only one skater was brave enough to skate an Original dance in the Juvenile Ladies section. For some skaters this was their first step towards the British Finals in June.

With only one local judge available three others were recruited from Edinburgh and one from Nottingham to make up the required panels for this popular RJS event.
All four categories from this year’s solo schedule were contested and the audience enjoyed some fine performances.

The Referee, Noel Grimshaw, used his contacts in Scotland’s local Sports Council network to persuade the Chairman of Aberdeen Sports Council, Bill Berry MBE a prominent official in judo, to make the presentations

Scotland’s second solo dance Opens is scheduled for Murrayfield in May.
