Another Victory for Scotland!
Sk8Scotland is very proud to congratulate the Scottish team on yet another victory in the NISA Cup Final, held this year in Aberdeen on April 24!
Scotland finished a full 18 points ahead of England with 68 points. Wales came in 3rd with Northern Ireland 4th.
This prestigious event between the UK nations is held by NISA every year, and has been won by Scotland several times. In this year's competition, Scottish skaters won every event they entered. In the level 8 ladies section, all five of our team members were unbeaten.
The Scotland team members were Kayleigh Munro, Angela Egan, Ashley Mitchell, Linda Craig, Abigail Hughes, Lewis Gibson, Jemma Lewis, Nicole Stewart, Sophie Merrielees, Lucy McDonald, Molly Potter, Chelsea McCulloch, Samantha Forbes, Sophie Meldrum, Catherine Dorans and Louise Young.
Many congratulations to all of you!
Great results for British team in the recent World Championships
Sk8scotland extends their congratulations to all the British team in the recent World Championships in Italy, in particular Sinead and John Kerr on their magnificent 5th place in the Senior Ice Dance Championship while at the Senior World Short Track Championships our own Elise Christie achieved a fantastic 8th place following her great 3rd place at the Senior European Championships.
These athletes are true role models and an inspiration to all aspiring performers.
Ice Experience 2010
The annual active schools Ice Experience took place at the Magnum Leisure Centre on Thursday 4th and Friday 5th February. This event has been running for several years now and provides an opportunity for all young people attending any of North Ayrshire’s Additional Support Needs Schools a chance to experience a range of ice based sports and activities.
With a change from the normal venue of Harvies ice rink, while renovations take place, the Magnum, hosted the event. Young people had the chance to experience ice skating, curling, ice hockey shooting and a fun sledging activity.
This year the event attracted 65 volunteers from many different local clubs including Ardrossan, Auchenmades and Kilwinning curling clubs, Auchenharvie figure skating, Ayrshire flyers speed skating and the Magnum ice hockey club. We also had the help of sports coaching students from Kilmarnock College.
Without the continued support of all of these volunteers, this most popular event would not be possible.
A huge THANK YOU from North Ayrshire Active Schools team to all who helped.
Unfortunately only four nominations for the Sk8scotland Board elections were received by the auditors at the closing date. Given that 2 (two) would be for non-contested portfolios, thereby resulting in a walk-over for each position, and 2 (two) for the same portfoilo requiring an election, the maximum elected directors would be 3 (three), which unfortunately would not be quorate under Article 9.2. Not being quorate, the 3 elected directors could not therefore make further appointments as provided for in Article 7.9.3. Therefore the current election process is void and the whole process must now be repeated as provided for in Articles 6 & 7 of the Sk8scotland Constitution.
Consequently an EGM has been set for Sunday 19th September 2010 and 80 days notice as per Article 6.1.1.1 is hereby given. Nominations are again invited from interested members which must be received by the association's auditors not later than Monday 16th August 2010.
Eligible members (see Sk8scotland Constitution 5.2 & 5.3 ) are invited to submit any proposals for consideration at the EGM in the correct format as specified in the Sk8scotland Constitution to be received not later than Thursday 22nd July 2010.
The current Sk8scotland board therefore remains in office until new elections have taken place.
The Sk8scotland Board has resolved that the 2010 AGM and Board elections have been scheduled for Sunday 18th July 2010, 1pm at Murrayfield Ice Rink. Eligible members (see Sk8scotland Constitution 5.2 & 5.3 ) are invited to attend.

Elise Christie continued her build up to the Olympic Games with her best ever performance in the senior European Championships in Dresden. Elise finished 2nd in the 1500m, with a season best time of 2.24.042, to Italy's Ariana Fontana. In the 3000m Super Final Elise again finished 2nd, this time to Katerina Novotna of the Czech Republic, in a British Senior record of 5.14.007. These results along with her 9th place in the 1000m and 11th place in the 500m saw her take the Bronze medal in the overall standings, the Gold went to Novotna and Silver to Fontana.
Elise's performance is all the more credible as she is still a junior. It is also further proof that she will peak at the Olympics, after early season injuries and loss of form the last six weeks has just been a continuous improvement in results and times. She is still off the pace of the best Koreans, Canadians and Chinese but she is every bit as talented as the these skaters and at the Olympics anything can happen if you are brave, proud and determined.
